Steph Linquist This is truly one of my favorite albums ever. I heard "Human/Machine" over my college's dining room sound system for several weeks and was perpetually annoyed by it. Then I finally discovered the Soil & the Sun (some of the members went to my college, haha!) and realized the song's iiiincredible. This album's going to be a classic for decades to come. Favorite track: Human/Machine.
Matt Moore
Matt Moore thumbnail
Matt Moore Hushed whisper, raging dissonance, swooning melody... The Soil & The Sun become more intentional, more powerful, and more humbling each album. On Meridian, a growing use of digital soundscapes and effects complement their previous mastery of wood, wire and air instrumentation. Lyrically, the group continues with their prophetic substance under an approachable veil. Alex and co. call out evil by name on "Samyaza," beg for peace on "How Long,"and bring the listener to joy in mystery on "Are You?" Favorite track: Samyaza.
Graham Hoppstock

Graham Hoppstock One of my all time favorite albums. It will put you into a blissful trance, while also maintaining high level biblical allusions, masterful song writing, and great musicianship. Favorite track: Are You?.

Intro 00:52

Are You? 05:53
Are you in the sky? Are you in my mind? Could I look into your eyes? Are you in the rays? Are you in the shade? Does it matter anyway? How could I know? Where do you go? Where are you going? How could I know? Are we out of touch? Do we talk too much? Have I said enough? Were you in the fire? Did you pass me by? Will I always wonder why? Are you in disguise? Are you undefined? Should I look into the light? Are you out of sight? On the other side? Should I slip into the night? How could I know? Where do you go? Where are you going? How could I know? Who are You are We are
3.
How Long 05:24
I know ya can’t hear me But I’m singing anyway Yeah, I know ya can’t see me But I’m dancing in your rays How long? How long? How heavy are these chains How long? How long? Oh, Lord, my soul must wait I know ya can’t feel me But I’m swimming through your waves Yeah I know ya can’t believe me But I swear you keep my faith How long? How long? How heavy are these chains How long? How long? Oh, Lord, my soul must wait I know ya can’t tell me But I’m asking for your name Yeah, I know ya can’t love me But I’m loving you the same How long? How long? How heavy are these chains How long? How long? Oh, Lord, my soul must wait
4.
Push Push 03:32
Underneath an overpass Illuminated by the lightning And clothed in black Lead us to another path And when we feel our fate approaching We push it back Push it, push it Give it all your goodness All, all, who you are Freely believe me Lay it on me easy All, all, all of your love Rise into the heart of life Out of living in the shadow Of endless night Let the scales fall from our eyes And when we see our time is coming We make it right Push it, push it Give it all your goodness All, all, who you are Freely believe me Lay it on me easy All, all, all of your love
5.
Samyaza 07:22
Samyaza Don’t watch me anymore I’ve been running into What it is that I’ve been put on Earth to do You demon Perverter of the truth You’ve been poisoning my blood But I know that I’ll be purified by a flood Prophet Would you tell me what you see? I’ve been hungry for to be Consumed as a berry on a tree My burdens I don’t bear them anymore I’ve been learning how to seek Who it is that I was put on Earth to be These mysteries, spoken to us Who knew what we’d become? Our memories turn into dust You grew out of our love This suffering, appointed to us Who knew what we’d become? All bodies given new blood You grew out of our love Our history, hidden from us Who knew what we’d become? It’s written, shining above You grew out of our love
6.
I’m an ode To a world we used to know Lost sometime ago Left alone In the shadow of your glow Like paintings on the stone Growing old In this solitary hole A shelter from the cold On my own In the glimmer of your prose Like dancers in a row Alone, below the glow above I’m a map A drawing in the sand A picture of your plan I am free To become what I believe Despite what is perceived Alone, below the glow above
7.
Feel the air in your lungs Feel the two become one Here in the middle Where earth meets the sun Touch the flame to our lips Touch so we never forget it A mix up of minerals But one who is loved So what if we don’t want to be Stuck in a human machine Under the cover Of light from above We cut a sign into our skin But there’s a darker sigil deeper in So now you drink up slow behind our backs And mutter incantations from our past A faded book primeval grimoire in citation Ancient language, modern incarnation Is it just another imitation? Is it here the new transfiguration? I’m not gonna eat the medicine Cuz I don’t want eternal life in prison I’m not gonna go to bed with him Cuz we can overcome the cataclysm No one does it like my mama does it No one does it like my daddy does it No one does it like my mama does it No one does it like my daddy does it
8.
Leviathan 04:21
Why does it sometimes feel like Everything is slipping away? I don’t wanna fight it I could leave it all today How do you expect me to buy it? The dying, the destruction, the decay All I want is music Let it go, its all okay Everything’s okay! All of the numbers and the figures Is it true, is it true? There in the decimal, it’s a pattern Is it you, is it you? Look how the worlds in collision move slow Look at the perfect precision throughout I’m sure that it’s a fact, or is it fiction? I think it’s over my head Now did you swallow your own tail like Ouroborus, Leviathan in the sky? If I were you I’d bite it I would leave it all behind How do you expect me to answer A question that’s never been asked? I won’t even try it I would rather let it pass Let this moment pass Go, go on, don’t look back No, don’t look back, go Don’t look now, I need control No, won’t let go Oh, please, no, don’t leave, don’t go Please don’t let go Don’t leave, no I need it Now, please go, don’t know
9.
Sundar Singh 06:20
Sundar Singh Was a diamond ring Affixed to his mother’s right hand Reflecting with zeal All he knew to be real Into the eyes as he passed As a boy He looked to the North And pondered in curious ways Over the blue Himalayas Day after day was Drawn to their light But if God above Descended in love Then why does a man feel this weight? So he tore every page And threw them away Into the fiery flame To eternal rest The Ludhiana Express But the train never took him away Instead he was shown to a vision Given a mission “Love thy land” All of the losing, all of the bruises Through the illusion, into confusion Don’t it move ya? Don’t it move you to hallelujah? He arose from his bed Went north to Tibet Renounced by the ones whom he loved Both body and soul Cast into a hole Three nights in the belly of death Oh, Sadhu Singh Great things have you seen! You sit at the Master’s feet You have known Maharishi The secret that he keeps As his charm All of the losing, all of the bruises Through the illusion, into confusion Don’t it move ya? Don’t it move you to hallelujah? Should your sun not shine, Hallelujah Should your moon not rise, Hallelujah

Lost Lovers 08:54
I’m lost and you are my lover I call your name I’m led by the lure of your lyre Into your inner chamber I’m faint and you are forever I go astray I walk by the light of your fire Would you follow me into the darkness? This heavy sorrow mine With every sadness thine To carry through all time Will be our joie de vivre I sink and you are the river I drift away I drink of the life in your water Would you carry me out of the darkness? This heavy sorrow mine With every sadness thine To carry through all time Will be our joie de vivre

Oiketerion 10:00
Once we walked Where the water was Took it slow There, a dove Alighted over us Up above A Holy One From it’s mouth Words come crawling out “Cut him down” As a flower’s Scent is spent for power In the breeze So are we So pass over here, low You search for Truth Who eludes you too… Yet you seek In some dark Far – flung corner of your heart Still you sing A prayer for me So I came to you Through the morning dew On my knees But you bound me back Into the curse I’d cast But I’ve changed I’m not the same So pass over here, low You could have left me on the ground There was no one else around Wish you’d have left me on the ground You could have left me in the dirt Where my body didn’t hurt Wish you’d have left me in the dirt You could have left me in the wild There was nothing else for miles Wish you’d have left me in the wild You could have left me in the mire Where my heart was as a child’s Wish you’d have left me in the mire
12.
Though I was blind I dreamt of a light The glow became bright My sight purified But I opened my eyes And was unsatisfied Nothing I saw Nothing I found So out of my mouth I sent forth a sound But the sound became proud From within and without I was alone So I brought you to life Your heart couldn’t bear it So I gave you mine But you didn’t love me So I lay down to die Then out in the void I came to realize This death was a lie A deception of mind So I cast it aside Forever alive
